North Main BBQ in Euless has closed

Replaced by a Halal market.

Back in the day, this was the spot with the best ribs I have ever eaten.  It was never the same after Hubert Green passed away.

Hutchin's BBQ, McKinney

sampled 10/29/22 about 1 pm

My Mrs had some friends in town and we talked them into meeting us at Hutchin's in McKinney.  There was about a 30 minute wait but the food was well worth it.  They now have their Texas Twinkies every day instead of just on weekends.  The twinkies had awesome smoke flavor in the bacon but there was a bit too much cream cheese for me.  I'd opt for more brisket and less cream cheese.  I got the end piece off a fresh brisket and it was awesome!  The ribs were tender and juicy and the sausage had a decent jalapeno bite.

Hurtado BBQ, Arlington

visited 10/13/22 about 11 am

We had a friend in town who wanted some BBQ so we took a trip down to Hurtado in Arlington.  The street in front of the restaurant was closed for construction but we found a parking spot nearby and wound our way around the barriers and into the joint.  The construction must be impacting their business as there were only two folks in line in front of us.  That's too bad, because the food was excellent, as always.  The brisket and ribs were perfectly smoked and the stuffed jalapenos were outstanding.  The casing on the sausage was a bit chewy and there didn't seem to be much spice in the jalapeno sausage.  I grabbed some extra brisket and Texas twinkies to go.

Zavala's BBQ, Grand Prairie 7/8/22

sampled 7/8/22 about noon

I have had Zavala's food at a couple of BBQ fests but this was my first time to make a visit to the restaurant.  We waited outside for about 30 minutes, fortunately in the shade, on a toasty July day.  I grabbed the usual Texas trinity but doubled up on the sausage with jalapeno cheese and brisket sausage.  I also grabbed some of their brisket poppers, which I have loved at fests.
I couldn't taste any smoke flavor in anything, maybe due to the heavy use of pepper in their rub, but it was all cooked well and tasty.  The ribs and brisket were both perfectly cooked and very juicy.  The poppers were just as good as I had remembered.  There was not much left other than some bones and a greasy spot.
I had hoped the line would go down enough I could get some more poppers to go, but it was not to be.  This time.  Fortunately, you can pre-order and pick up before 11 am and skip the line.  That will probably be my plan next time.  Also, be aware they do not take cash.
