This is a place I have been meaning to get to since they made the Texas Monthly top 50 last year. Scott had been and said it was definitely good Q. I also had samples at the Texas Monthly and Red Dirt BBQ fests and had enjoyed their samples. I had to take 4 pounds of Black's brisket over to my buddy Trey and had some other business over near McKinney, so I made a point to include this joint on my jaunt. What do I do the day after after eating at 3 BBQ joints in Lockhart and bringing back 14 pounds of frozen brisket? Why go eat more BBQ, of course!! Some of you are not surprised....
All the food looked great and seeing did not deceive. The brisket was very moist with well rendered fat. The smoke flavor was light but certainly present. The ribs were nice, with the slightly crispy crust which I had noticed at Red Dirt. They had a caramelized light glaze which was coated with a fresh application on cutting. The ribs were tasty with good tenderness and moisture that left a good bite mark. The sausage was hot and juicy with only light jalapeno flavor.
A very nice meal for the price and well worth a stop if you're in the area. I may have to fast and go back for their $17.99 all you can eat some day. That's a pretty good deal for some very good BBQ. This place can give Lockhart and Austin a run for their money.
